he International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) has introduced four new high-yield rice varieties in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to boost food security and farmer incomes. These improved varieties are designed to withstand local climatic challenges, resist pests, and ensure higher productivity. The initiative is part of IRRI’s mission to promote sustainable rice farming and enhance self-sufficiency across Africa. Experts believe the new varieties will significantly improve rice yields, reduce imports, and strengthen livelihoods for thousands of smallholder farmers in the region.
